Faculty honors
UF College of Pharmacy faculty received various awards and recognitions throughout 2019–2020.
Michelle Farland, Pharm.D., BCPS, C.D.E.
Michelle Farland, a clinical associate professor of pharmacotherapy and translational research, was installed as the new president of the Team-Based Learning Collaborative. The nonprofit organization features about 1,300 educators from around the world who encourage and support the use of team-based learning in all levels of education.
Juan Hincapie-Castillo, Ph.D., Pharm.D., M.S.
Juan Hincapie-Castillo, Ph.D., Pharm.D., an assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy, received the 2020 Emerging Leader Award from the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology, or ISPE. The award recognizes ISPE members who have shown, early in their careers, the potential for leadership and have already made significant contributions to the society.
Guenther Hochhaus, Ph.D.
The American College of Clinical Pharmacology honored Guenther Hochhaus, Ph.D., a professor of pharmaceutics, with the 2019 Bristol-Myers Squibb Mentorship in Clinical Pharmacology Award. The award is given annually to a mentor who demonstrated exemplary promotion of clinical pharmacology, with an emphasis on training junior scientists or colleagues.
Folakemi Odedina, Ph.D.
Folakemi Odedina, Ph.D., a professor of pharmacotherapy and translational research, has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Minorities in Cancer Research Council of the American Association for Cancer Research. Odedina was selected based on her many contributions to cancer research and dedication to programs and activities that support minority investigators.
Stephan Schmidt, Ph.D., F.C.P.
Stephan Schmidt, an associate professor of pharmaceutics and the Certara Endowed Professor, was appointed director of the Center for Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, effective Jan. 1, 2020. As director, Schmidt leads the center’s research and education programs, which focus on drug development and regulatory science.
Hui Shao, M.D., Ph.D.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Health Economics Research Group bestowed Hui Shao, M.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy, with the Kaafee Billah Early Career Award. The award recognizes early career health economists for outstanding contributions in furthering economics and decision sciences at the CDC.
Yu-Jung “Jenny” Wei, Ph.D., M.S.
The American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics awarded Yu-Jung “Jenny” Wei, Ph.D., M.S., an assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy, with the William B. Abrams Award in Geriatric Clinical Pharmacology. The award was established in 1996 and honors an investigator in geriatric clinical pharmacology for outstanding contributions in the field.
