Celebrating Diversity in the UF College of Pharmacy
UF College of Pharmacy Receives Insight Into Diversity 2021 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award
The University of Florida College of Pharmacy received the 2021 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity, or HEED, Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. It marks the first time the college has received the award, which is presented annually by the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
As a recipient of the Health Professions HEED Award — a national honor recognizing U.S. health colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion — the UF College of Pharmacy was featured, along with 50 other recipients, in the December 2021 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine. The UF College of Pharmacy is one of only three pharmacy colleges nationally to receive the honor and joins the UF College of Dentistry as a recipient of this year’s award.
Diversity Week celebrations highlight efforts to “Strengthen Community Through Diversity”
The University of Florida College of Pharmacy celebrated the people, cultures and experiences that make the college unique during the second annual Diversity Week celebration, April 4-8. The theme of this year’s event was “Strengthening Community Through Diversity,” and multiple events were held throughout the week with this theme in mind.
The festivities began on April 4, with a trivia contest and game night. Participants put their knowledge of diversity and health equity to the test, while they competed for prizes. In addition, several students brought games representing their cultural heritage to play. Other activities during the week included a Diversity Jam event, a presentation by Selena Webster Bass, M.P.H., about mental health in the BIPOC community and a documentary screening and discussion related to “The Healthcare Divide,” which was produced by PBS and NPR.
